A coalition of 10 energy industry associations will soon launch a new campaign downplaying the role of clean energy in combating climate change—an issue that is a non-starter for Republican policymakers, the news site Axios reported.
National Clean Energy Week, which will be held the final week of September, will emphasize the role of clean energy in creating jobs and boosting the economy but largely will sidestep the industry's role in fighting climate change. While most scientists believe climate change is real, most Republican lawmakers have rejected proposed solutions.
Clean energy groups have emphasized climate change in a past when former President Barack Obama was in office, but now they view jobs as a message more likely to resonate with a Republican-controlled White House and Congress.
About $500,000 has been set aside for the campaign, Axios reported. Participating associations are Advanced Energy Economy, Nuclear Energy Institute, Biomass Power Association, American Wind Energy Association, Business Council for Sustainable Energy, Clean Energy Business Network, Solar Energy Industries Association, National Hydropower Association, the American Council on Renewable Energy and the Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions Forum. http://bit.ly/2vKA02H
